Men’s Motorcycle Leathers Jackets

The jacket is probably the 2nd most important piece of gear wear you will purchase with the helmet being the first piece of protective wear. It is easy to get caught in the bright colors and the zippers all over and even the snaps, but, like anything else you should do your research before you purchase your fist motorcycle leather jacket. It is something you will hang on to for a while, it is an investment, just like your motorcycle, and it is used for protection too. Leather saves our lives and it has been proven to be the best riding gear.

Ask yourself, what do you know about leathers? Did you know that there was more than one type of leather? That is the first thing; we should look at them before we move on to pick a style. Right off the bat, there are three types of leather with the first being a pigskin, a very soft feeling leather that will keep you warm, but, it is also known to tear easy. Something you probably would buy in a vest model but not a coat. It’s really not riding leather. Then you have Buffalo hide, this is considered rider leather because it is thick and can be tanned on both sides. It is very durable and will not tear easily. The cowhide is the most common leather of all, due to its durability, the strength and warmth. It is most favored by bike riders.

Do not forget when you purchase your piece of leather there may still be a tanning process involved so you can protect your jacket, like seasoning a pair of shoes or a cast iron pan. You want to make sure it lasts for the season you have bought it for and you will wipe it down again when you pack it up to change seasons.

Now you can look for the style you have an interest in. You may want a jacket that stops at the waist, snaps at the wrists, and has zippers so can unzip an area for it to expand and allow air to flow through to cool you off. You may want a collar, or even some fringe. Some bikers by a jacket that has a stripe in it the same color as their motorcycle. The choice is yours.
