How do you remove the baffles on a Harley Davidson?

Posted by admin On March - 12 - 2010

I have a 2006 Harley Davidson and I want to make it louder? Does anyone know how to remove the baffles in the exhaust pipes?

I could tell you, but then I’d have to kill you.

  1. Randy & Lori Said,

Trust me you don’t want to do that. You want it a little louder without sacrificing stability of the engine (from no back pressure) Get a set of screaming eagle pipes w/ a crossover pipe. Hey the bike is 4 years old it’s worth it right? keep the stock pipes so that you have a spare set when the new ones rot out (5 or 6 years from now) Trust me it is worth it and you will not get a ticket and still have a nice sound.

Remove the muffler from the pipe.
With a carbide burr in a die grinder (or a Dremel tool), cut the sheet metal just inside the back end.
Use a broom handle or similar to push the baffle out from the front end.
Use the burr or Dremel to remove any burrs.
Give the inside of the muffler a shot of high heat black paint.
That keeps the interior from showing rust, and looks better from the start.

The result is a straight-through glasspack.

You don’t want to do that unless you have an old Shovel or pan these new motors are balanced with back pressure. Get some vance and Hines or ScreaminEagle

If you MUST make your bike louder (small penis?) buy aftermarket pipes, and have the EFI or carb tuned to suit. Gutting the stock pipes will make it run like s**t. Stock pipes RULE!

Go Firecracker,,,,,the whole point was…..How do I remove the baffles,….not do you think its a good idea. Its not a good idea but that’s not what he asked and Firecracker gave him his answer. If he wants to screw up a perfectly good Harley thats his choice,,painful as it is,, its his bike. I hope this answered his question as well.

I’ve done this a few times and there’s alot more to it than what Firecracker says. Firstly what ever you use( hole saw or what ever) you will need a long extension on it and you have to do the same on both ends, Most of them are at an angle which makes it hard to get any cutting tool started plus you have to work with that extension. It ain’t no piece of cake. Buy yourself new pipes and forget the aggravation
