What would be a good motorcycle to build for a beginner?

Posted by admin On August - 28 - 2010

I am 16 and I really like mechanics. I don’t have a lot of prior knowledge but I would really enjoy build my own motorcycle while i’m still in high school. Does anyone have suggestions for a motorcycle that would be reliable and easy to maintain?

if you are asking about building a motorcycle from scratch that is not going to happen. you do not have the skill, tools or the money to do that. if you want to try rebuilding a broken down bike go for it but because you say that you have no real knowledge of mechanics do not expect a Miracle.

I am 20 years old and I have a regular drivers license, live in Chicago. I just want to know what I need to do in order to get my motorcycle permit and then a motorcycle license.

Exact same procedure as a regular drivers license.
Go to DMV – fill out application – take the written test – take the road test.
Some states will waive the road test if you take a certified rider course.

Are leathers or gor-tex better for motorcycle clothing?

Posted by admin On August - 9 - 2010

I’ve just bought a bike and am wondering whether to get full leathers or to get Gor-tex? Has anyone got any recommendations from experience? Thanks :)

For day to day travel then use gore-tex, on warm days you can remove the liners but you at least know that if it rains then you will stay dry. Most gore-tex outfits tend to have more basic armor than leathers as well in the shoulders and forearms. If you are just getting a bike for good weekend weather then I’d opt for the leathers …. or do as I did and buy both :D

I’ve just bought a bike and am wondering whether to get leathers or Gor-tex? Anyone with recommendations especially from people with experience welcome!

It depends.
I tried both.
Goretex lasts longer and offers better rain protection.
