What is the difference between a motorcycle jacket and a bomber jacket?

They look so similar to me. sometimes I think I know the difference but then I see someone walking around with one that looks completely like a motorcycle one to me and calling it a bomber one. If you could put an end to my confusion, it’d be much appreciated.

It’s a dark and stormy night. You are on a flight over war torn Europe flying inside a Lancaster Bomber. It’s cold. Damned cold.

You’re sitting crouched in a bomb bay, with a 240 pounder between your legs. You’re hand reaches forward for the release…

If you were a bomber – you’d wear a bomber jacket. That had to be tight at the waist, so it didn’t tangle with your bomb-drop gear or you and the bomb would be landing in the same place.

The same idea was adopted by the biker jacket – you definitely don’t want belt-buckles or parts to get trapped when you are barrelling down a dusty road.

In both cases, they were made of whatever material was considered practicable for their purpose. The bomber jacket was always leather and had some padding, to help retain heat.

Original biker jackets were made of heavy denim – coz you might take a tumble from your bike at speed.

Somewhere down the road (think James Dean), the bikers jacket material changed to leather, coz it had suddenly got a bit of Hollywood-sponsored street cred.
Hope this helps

be used as regular winter jacket?

A leather jacket makes fine winter wear. A removable liner makes it warmer, but you can always layer under it. The best feature is the way leather blocks the wind.

does anyone in Poland live near a Harley-Davidson dealership? i am looking for a way to purchase a Harley t-shirt that has the Polish language on it. i am of Polish descent and the Polish friends that i ride with will be jealous! can anyone help me out? i will gladly mail a money order or bank cashier’s check in advance to cover all costs. thank you.

the best thing you can do is get one custom printed. im sure you can get that done right where you live, just find some stores that make custom designed t shirts. pick the Harley logo of your choice, choose a sentence in polish and maybe a polish flag around the harley shield and you’re set:) that im sure will make your friends even more jealous as you’ll have a one of a kind t shirt:)

How long before a California motorcycle license expires?

Posted by admin On September - 25 - 2009

I don’t plan to purchase a motorcycle for another few years when I’ve saved up enough money, but I would like to get my motorcycle license by taking a class and passing the written test. When I get my California motorcycle license, how long will I have it before it expires? And when it expires, do I have to take the skills and written test again? I don’t want it to expire before I purchase a motorcycle. Thanks in advance.

Start at the link below. It was real easy to find. All I did was open a window for my search engine, then type in "california motorcycle license information" and POOF! There it was!

Motorcycle Leather And Boots?

Posted by admin On September - 25 - 2009

I live in Suburban Detroit and am looking to buy a leather motorcycle jacket, helmet, gloves and glasses. I guess apparel in general.

I want to try on the jacket to make sure I like the fit and the look, which I can’t do if I order the jacket on-line, unless I want to spend a bunch of money on returning the items I don’t like or doesn’t fit.

Point being, I need to know where I can go to get this stuff and not have to drive to the other side of Michigan to get it.

Anywhere in Wayne County or boarding Wayne County like Ann Arbor or whatever.

Any ideas?

Hi Miranda,

I deal with Linda — who is the accessory manager at "Motor City" Power Sports located in Bloomfield, Michigan. The address is: 1645 S. Telegraph Rd. in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. The phone number # 248-858-2300.

She is a big help in assisting you in selecting the right attire. She is informative and friendly. There is also "Scott" in accessories who is also a huge help. They really go over board to help new women riders or riders period get the right gear that will fit you and protect you.

I think they even offer lay-way….because the apparel cost a bit. For example my Stella Boots by Alpine star that cost $199.99…however, there are other boots that are cheaper. They also offer ladies night classes…you learn how to pick up your bike (if it happens to fall) and what to take care of your bike. That is a wonderful experience.

Oh’ and tell her Dee Dee sent you ; )

Good luck and I hope the information is helpful…. ; )

How do I drain my motorcycle gas fuel quickly?

Posted by admin On September - 23 - 2009

I’m trying to winterize my 2007 kawasaki ninja 250R but trying to figure out the fastest way to drain out the gas.

Also, any other tips to prepare your motorcycle for winter would be helpful!

Unplug the line from the tank.

I know that I will wear a helmet and a leather jacket with protection. However, I do not know if I should but a leather pants and boots for motorcycle gear. If you think it is essential please try to convince me.

Sorry, must call BS on the "strong pair of jeans" remarks.
Denim vs. pavement? NO contest. Won’t last three feet.

Necessary? No. Smart? Yes. Leather is best. I ride in Louisiana…all year, so I wear textiles which aren’t as good, but are better than denim.

But part of the joy in riding is being free. So weigh your options. Riding style, experience, weather. Choose for yourself. But the safest thing? ATGATT -all the gear, all the time

Harley-Davidson?

O.K. So now I have your attention. Should I trade in my old bike and buy a new H-D so that I can be a rebel and individualistic like the rest of the current owners/buyers? I remember a time when owning a Harley was something more than an expensive toy. It meant that you rode and you rode seriously. God how I miss those days! Yep, I’m a dinosaur.

I’d say buy a new one, keep the old one. Look for the advantages! The RUBS (rich urban bikers) have created a glut of Harleys sitting in their garages with low miles just waiting for someone to pick up and put to use for a greatly reduced price. I also am a dinosaur and am looking forward to my first bagger, I’m old enough now and the wife is complaining the softail is beating her up. Once I get my Jeep paid off I’ll be shopping for one of those UltrClassics that someone gotten spooked of and wants to sell. So I’ll make room in the shop for it along with the softail and Shovelhead FXWG.
Another advantage, when was the last time you got rousted out on your bike. The law is saying "so many bikes, so little time……I give up!!!" With so many bikes you really have to be trying to be picked out and you’d have to have flanders bars and straight pipes to get rousted for the usual reasons.
The patch wearers also have come to appreciate it as effective camouflage.
There’s plenty of road and it ain’t no thing to me…..I can get around them!!
