As a motorcycle rider and being one of many years the first thing I learned was to cover up from head to toe and respect the ride. Motorcycles although they can be fun the best chance you have against being seriously hurt is if you should fall or crash, or be hit by someone. When and if that happens you want to have as much gear on as possible. There are states that if the rider is under a certain age it is the law and they must wear a helmet. Wearing a helmet just makes good sense if you think about it.

A leather jacket with vents for breathing, hard plates at the elbows and mid-back area helps protect you if you were to fall, especially on your elbows. Anyone that has lost their balance automatically tries to brace themselves with their arms. The snaps around wrist will provide secure closure to prevent too much wind going up your sleeves and keeps your gloves tucked in depending on the season. The leather pants help prevent burns if you accidently lean against a hot pipe or slide off the bike and get road rash (scraped skin) and the obvious if anything comes up from the road it will not hurt as much if it hits leather pants. I would rather look down and see rubbed leather than a burn or bleeding skin any day, besides it completes the outfit.

Last but not least are your boots, they should come right up above your ankles for support and coverage. Everything you wear is to protect you on t is not you most of the time that is the problem driver it is usually the other people you have to watch out for on the road. Like any wardrobe you have to change with the seasons, you do not want to wear a heavy winter leather coat in the middle of summer or you may want chaps in the summer and full leather pants in the winter.

Riding can be a blast and for some it is transportation no matter what the weather or the season in whatever state. The riding gear is part of the maintenance, you take care of the bike and the clothes and you have armed yourself with protection.
